Ana Banko is an Associate professor at the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine University of Belgrade, Serbia. She is a doctor specializing in microbiology and a subspecialist in virology, with broad experience in the field of clinical virology and laboratory diagnostics of a diverse spectrum of viral infections.

The scientific background of Prof. Banko’s work mostly includes cancers and autoimmune diseases related to viral infections, as well as seroepidemiological research of vaccine-preventive viral diseases. In addition to numerous scientific publications and presentations of results at leading international conferences, Prof. Banko is involved in or successfully leads several scientific projects investigating EBV, HPV, HBV, VZV, morbillivirus, mumps virus, rubella virus, CMV, HSV1, HSV2, SARS-CoV-2, and many more.

Special professional enthusiasm relates to education. Prof. Banko is included in the teaching of undergraduate, doctoral, and specialist students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade. She is also an organizer and educator in CME (Continuing Medical Education) courses regarding the diagnostics of viral diseases, vaccination, the role of viral infections in autoimmunity and public health. She mentors PhD and master’s thesis and students’ scientific research.

Additionally, Prof. Banko is a member of several European and Serbian virology and microbiology associations, part of the Editorial boards and a reviewer in many international and national scientific journals, and a consultant to biotech companies involved in the development of vaccines.
